The common advice given by Google is having an (http:// to appear in front of the URL’s instead of http://) In this article I will tell you about the 5 basic steps of how to secure your website, learn it and implement it right away.

  • Secure Certificate Installation

Connect with your hosting team through which you have purchased the hosting. The default SSL which is there on your website works fine, and nothing else so contact the hosting agent and get to know what plan you have taken and whether your WordPress website is secured or not.

  • Use the Secure URL’S

Once the certification is completed on your WordPress login to the dashboard of WordPress Navigate to Settings>General. Change the Site address (URL) as well as WordPress address (URL) and when you will proceed it WordPress will log you out from your account, and you need to login back as this is the automatic process which will happen and after doing this  use an http:// at the beginning and save changes.

  • Enable “Mixed Content” feature and redirect all the website pages securely

There is a free plugin in WordPress which is known as Really Simple SSL activate this plugin and as soon as you will update then navigate to the settings page of the plugin and check whether “Auto replace mixed content” is checked or not and after that you will get the three ways of redirection. Enable 301 .htacess that will redirect to the security page. Save the setting and move on further.

After that in the left side of the URL you will notice a green padlock if every setting you have done as per instruction is fine, that will automatically push your page to the http:// version.

  • Troubleshooting

Till now, if you are not able to see the green padlock then troubleshoot the problem in one go. You will need to install the Firebug add-on.

The number of page which are not showing the green padlock do the right click and choose “Inspect element with Firebug” as the Firebug window is open refresh the browser and then click on the tab which says console tab as soon as you click it will show you the list of content which is stopping you from opening you page securely. Fix all the issues and carry on with the next step you secure your website.

  • Adding the secure version of the site to Google search console

Remember one thing about adding the secure site which you have made it by following the steps, make sure that you add it to the Google Search Console.

Next, login to your Google analytics account and Click on the website you just made secure from your Accounts dashboard. Then click the Admin button at the bottom of the left sidebar and then Click Property Settings in the middle column. Click the drop-down under Default URL, choose https:// and click Save at the bottom of the page. Then, on this same page, click the Adjust Search Console button under the Search Console heading. Connect your Google Analytics profile for your site to the new https:// version of your site you added to Search Console in the prior paragraph. Click done, and the rest is done

That’s it! You won’t need to change out your analytics code, and your Google Analytics data will remain seamless with all the data from the old http:// version and the new https:// version in the same account.

On the whole, never bring other thoughts in your mind as Google has claimed on moving from http:// to https:// it’s not going to negative effect on your site.
